Who are the storytellers?

I don’t know if it is the holiday season or just general artistic inquiry, but I have been thinking lately about storytelling.

How does a person become a storyteller? When does it start and how many kinds of storytellers are there in our universe?

I love stories period and am always looking for the next inspirational story that can bring a tear to my eye and a laugh to my lips. Being a right brained artist, I notice that most people attribute storytelling as being an artistic life pursuit.

It is only the writers, poets, artists, thespians, and videographers that live the life of the storyteller. However, that cannot be further from the truth. I watch, listen and teach all kinds of children every day that are meant to become storytellers, regardless of their chosen profession.

Simply, the act of living means you are meant to be a storyteller; interests and profession aside.

A lot of my teaching is talking about habits. What are habits? How do you fall into a habit? How do you break a habit?  Now most of these conversations happen in the dance studio, but in the larger picture they apply to any area of life. I believe in today’s world we as humans have adopted an unhealthy habit of constantly segregating the “Who” in “Who we are?” and the “Why” in “Why are we important?” and the “What” in “What we do for a living?” I think we often forget to overlay life’s details with the bigger picture. We do this when we decide on our life’s profession, the school we attend, the grade level we fall under and the group of faces we surround ourselves with on a daily basis.

Now, these habits good and bad are being formed from birth and especially during a child’s school years.

The most detrimental thing we can do in society is to segregate our children’s interests, age levels and learning abilities.

From the beginning, I never completely checked any of the “normal” life expectation boxes. In my early twenties someone told me, “you know you don’t have to just have one profession in life, you can do multiple things.” I physically remember the stress and internal worry about this subject falling away, as if I just got permission to be myself and stop having to conform to human’s static expectations. Live and let live became my motto, my gut became my compass, and grabbing at opportunities when they walked in the room became my reality. I honestly cannot say I have become a person with one title or that my business Skagit Seedlings offers one service. The beauty of this is that our space is open to all humans who are encouraged to become whatever kind of storyteller their heart desires.  Let the scientists & inventors join our artistic creators to start telling the whole story that is life.

Learn More about all our Princess Ballerina fun!

Skagit Seedlings: Growing in the Arts is excited to announce that we have a new Preschool/Kindergarten dance program!

It’s called Princess Ballerinas and your little one is just going to LOVE it!

New Session-Based Format

Our new Princess Ballerinas classes will run in 10-week sessions starting in the fall 2017. Each session is based on an imaginative story and theme that will take your budding ballerina on an exciting adventure where we’ll explore with thematic music, dancing and imaginative props. If your tot or kinder-dancer just does not want to wait for Fall we currently are offering introductory spring classes for the next 5-weeks. Either sign up for the remainder session or Drop-In and experience the Princess Ballerina magic for FREE! Plus, there is still time to register for either of our 2 exciting Summer Camps!

A Fresh Theme & Story Every Session

The stories and themes are designed to keep your tiny dancer excited and engaged each and every week, all year long- In fact, she’ll never see the same theme twice as long as she’s enrolled in a Princess Ballerinas class!

             Student Bonus Material

Each story book features a matching set of student bonus materials! Each session, your child will receive…

  • Her very own hardcover copy of that session’s story book
  • A matching coloring page
  • A sticker chart to track skill progress
  • A certificate of completion to celebrate her effort and hard work in class.
  • Your dancer can even practice or perform at home- free matching playlist of our in-class music is available on Spotify!
  • Best of all- all of the new bonus materials are 100% complimentary!

Parent Demonstration Weeks

Our new 10-week sessions of Princess Ballerinas classes will offer more opportunities to come in for a front row seat to see your little ballerina perform. During week 5 of each session, you’ll be invited in during the last 5 minutes of class for a “sneak peek” to see a little of what your child has been learning in the session so far.

Then, at the last class of each session, you’ll be invited into the classroom during the last half of class for a full performance, in costume! Costumes are provided on a “dress-up” basis, so there’s no additional cost to you.

Priority Registration

We have two Princess Ballerina Camps offered this summer and all students enrolled in our spring and summer sessions will have priority registration.  We expect our classes to be at capacity by the start of the session.

Care to guess what our fall theme is?

Hint: Think butterflies, bees, frogs…and singing fairies… 🙂

FALL Priority Registration for existing students and Previous Allen Grange Educational Center families will begin on Monday, May 16th and continue through Saturday, June 4th.

Pre-Registration & Early Bird Bonuses:

Besides getting the opportunity to reserve a spot in our exciting new program, as an added bonus families who enroll before 6/4  (for either our Summer Princess Ballerina Camps or Fall Session) will receive a new leotard with an attached tutu on the first day of the session (a $40 value).
